Beautiful Brindled Greyhound at the Dog Park

Image
This gorgeous girl ( Cora) is a rescue from Australia.  She, like many rescued Greys, is sweet and gentle. After a good bit of caressing by me she suddenly took off and ran in a large circle at great speed WOW!

New Friend at the Park

Image
Cooper met a new friend "Hank" at the 17th St Park. Hank's owners showed due caution until the two boys decided to have a glorious romp and playfight.  The parents, and later their daughter, were delighted to witness the spectacle. All done, Cooper and Hank decided to sit down and chew the fat.

News About My Vascular Surgery

Image
It's been a long time coming but I now have an early timetable for the essential (but not critical) surgery to improve the blood flow to my right leg. There is no pain in that leg, but a dull ache which makes it difficult to walk.   This has been happening for years. The time has come for surgery without which I could develop severe wounds which would not heal; or even gangrene. This morning I had an excellent consultation with Dr. Inkyoung K Parrach; and Dr. Douglas Dorsay.  Dr.Dorsay has been my primary vascular Doctor for many years. Sadly he has Parkinsons disease; so his forte is diagnosis not surgery. Dr. Parrach will be the surgeon. The Doctors are unanimous in their recommendation that the surgery should take place after my visit to the United Kingdom.  This is primarily because it will be complicated surgery, with a three-day hospital stay. I will have a stress test on July 7th, with a view to surgery on July 16th. How fortunate I am to have excellent...

Gratitude is a Good Attitude LXXXI

Image
LXXX Last year was the big one.  Some may remember the utterly wonderful time I had in England for my 80th birthday.   LXXXI      has been in a lower key  (perhaps) The day started out well when I had my phone fixed at the Apple Store -  in and out in ten minutes  (BRAVO APPLE).  I'd been frustrated because I could not use the 'phone on my birthday. Apple's good work  (free) opened the door to 'phone calls, text messages etc  Thus I was able to speak with dear family members, and others. Thanks to Facebook and e-mail I received greetings from nearly 100 friends. I enjoyed each one. Social Media indeed! I enjoyed a simple lunch (my request) with my friends Donna, Ashley and Guzzetta.  V ichyssoise, Pizza and Sticky Toffee Pudding. As the day wound down I had super and long conversations with  friends in Oregon, Georgia, Alaska and Massachusetts.   Alleuia!  Birthdays = Connection. Mr C enjoy...

A Birthday Treat

Image
Leek and Potato Soup; perhaps even Vichyssoise -  made by me for my birthday celebration at Donna and Ashley's home this afternoon.  Cold soup on a stinking hot day. The main course (at my request) will be Paul Newman's Pizza. Sticky Toffee pudding for afters. I want the party to be homey, not fancy.

Garibaldi Biscuits and my Neighbour ( ref Golden Fruit Raisin Cookes)

Image
My neighbour Cheney Green is my go-to person when I need something fixed in my house. I often thank him with Sourdough Bread from Mama G's.  He calls me the "Bread Genie".  I didn't get to Mama G's on Saturday, so I gave Cheney some "Garibaldi" biscuits.  They are sold at our local Publix Supermarket. (They were one of my favourites in the olden days).  They are filled with currants which girls and boys of my era called Squashed Flies.  Good and gracious Cheney fondly remembered a similar American version from his youth - it was filled with raisins not currants. Here is the Wiki story.  It mentions that old time American cookie:   "Golden Fruit  Raisin " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garibaldi_biscuit

May 18th Cooper was a rascal and scamp at the Park

Image
As is usual Cooper decided that he would not leave the Dog Park until he was good and ready. I pulled my old trick and went to the gates and opened them.  I knew that he would came racing down  "oh dear Papa is leaving without me". But in a defiant (or playful) mood he gave me the finger. Instead of coming to Papa he chased a vehicle as it was being driven away from the Park. My calls were unheeded.  Out he went on the Dog Park driveway, and down the street. I jumped into my car, drove out leaving a cloud of dust, and on to the street. There he was sitting on the grass verge, in the assurance that Papa would "rescue him" RASCAL     SCAMP HE GAVE HIS DEAR OLD PAPA A SCARE, --------------------------------------------------------------------- Earlier he'd had a whale of a time play fighting.

Local Store Saved by the Public. HUZZAHS!

Image
Many of us were dismayed when it was announced that our wonderful Cheese shop was to close.   What a great source for artisan cheeses from small farms in Vermont, Oregon, France,  Switzerland and other European countries. It had been hit hard by last year's hurricane, by tariffs, and by staffing problems. Then came today's happy headline.  This business is being saved by a crowd fund initiative.  More than $40,000 has been raised. We love local! I stopped by today to add my dollars to the fund.  The owner is overwhelmed! She related that she had made a business mistake by adding a small cafe to her offerings.   That meant more equipment and more staff.  And it's hard to make money from a small cafe (or a large Cafe!) She will revert to her original plan  -  to be an artisanal cheese shop, and nothing more. This reminds me of the old saying "Cobbler stick to your last" The proverb  let the cobbler stick to his last  ...

Friends at the Dog Park

Image
Susanne and I are dog park friends.   We share the same off beat sense of humour. Jack the dog is a pug mix.  He is entirely gentle and friendly. He decided to snuggle with us. S and I created a fiction that we are a middle-aged couple with nothing to keep us together except our love for Jack!

Cooper rolled in the mud at 17th St.  Park.   He divested himself of the detritus on my white tile floor    I gave him a broom to clean it up. He refused on the grounds that I had served chicken breast with his meal, instead of the usual chicken thigh.  He refused eat it. After all, chicken breast can be very dry.   I relented and replaced the breast meat with thigh meat. He showed his gratitude by licking my salty? leg ========================================================= The detritus remains
