Local Store Saved by the Public. HUZZAHS!
Many of us were dismayed when it was announced that our wonderful Cheese shop was to close. What a great source for artisan cheeses from small farms in Vermont, Oregon, France, Switzerland and other European countries.
It had been hit hard by last year's hurricane, by tariffs, and by staffing problems.
Then came today's happy headline. This business is being saved by a crowd fund initiative. More than $40,000 has been raised. We love local!
I stopped by today to add my dollars to the fund. The owner is overwhelmed!
She related that she had made a business mistake by adding a small cafe to her offerings. That meant more equipment and more staff. And it's hard to make money from a small cafe (or a large Cafe!)
She will revert to her original plan - to be an artisanal cheese shop, and nothing more.
This reminds me of the old saying "Cobbler stick to your last"
The proverb let the cobbler stick to his last means that one should do the work one is expert at, and not try to interfere in, or do, that of others—the word ultracrepidarian alludes to this prove,''
HURRAH FOR LOCAL!
