You are right Buddy

Image
I left Cooper in the car this afternoon whilst I bought some  "bits and bobs" at a corner school. The A/C was on full strength; the windows down an inch or two. A young man was delivering ice to the store.  He passed by the car and offered, "you have a great looking dog" He was right. The photo' above was taken at home.

A Dutch Shepherd Dog in 17th St Park at Sarasota.

Image
I've met many German Shepherd Dogs. My Cooper is at least partly a Belgian Shepherd Dog. He and I met a Dutch Shepherd Dog today at 17th St Park.  see above  N.B.  To be classified as a pedigree Belgian she/he must be brindled. Her name is "Turtle"  (named for the chocolate) She is sweet and generous.   She introduced Cooper to the sport of catching the ball, using one of these Turtle's custom is to slow down when playing ball with another dog so that the other dog will win!  Don't be pushy if you are Dutch? Cooper is reluctant to surrender the ball when he returns to "base",  Winner takes all eh?

Dinner tonight, a wee bit of Ribeye Steak.   No veggies (tut tut). Awe and Wonder:   the splendid and wonderful Cooper had Steak too; his piece was four times the size as mine!

This is Frasier.   He and Cooper chase each other at the park. They careened into me this morning.  I staggered a bit.  I used my walking stick to prevent a fall.   That's why I call it "my third leg"

Bravo Sarasota

Image
https://locations.bravosupermarkets.com/bravo-supermarkets-c9ef6fae7fbb I liked Puffed Wheat as a breakfast Cereal when I was a whipper snapper. Made by Quaker Oats, my mum served it with warm or cold milk; and often with a sugar syrup. The Quaker brand has all by disappeared; but not the Hispanic version; readily available at our local  Bravo Market,

Ellenton Animal Hospital (FL) and Dr. Reagan McDonald

Image
Dr McDonald is the tops.    Cooper and I were with her this morning, together with her Technical Assistant "Boston"   (Her given name is Amanda but with other staff members who bear that moniker she chooses to use her hometown name to save confusion.) Our consultation was fruitful.    Cooper will no longer be given NEXGARD (Flea and Tick prevention) -  which has a seizure risk. Instead I will apply a monthly topical med between shoulder blades. The new seizure prophylactic will be KEPPRA. I asked that my instructions be as clear as glass because I am prone to missing the fine detail.   Yer 'tis

Remembrance of things past, I think that the colour suits me!

IS THIS THE CAUSE? I checked one of Cooper's Meds (it's frequently prescribed in the U.S.A.)

Image
I snooped around and read this on the back of Cooper's NexGard Plus container. This med and his seizures?     I will check this on Monday when we see Cooper's Veterinarian.

4:15 a.m. OH DEAR ANOTHER DAMN SEIZURE A TERRIBLE THING TO WITNESS

Image
My sweet boy.   Seizure number six. I was unable to help until the seizure abated, then I offered healing hugs. Post seizure he has been drinking a lot of water and has thrown up. Deep, dark sleep after the seizure

Boston Red Sox; Fenway Park; and the 17th St. Dog Park, Sarasota

Image
There are a number of Cathedrals in the Boston Area, e.g. Roman Catholic; Episcopalian; and  probably Eastern Orthodox (of one stripe or another). Catholics, Episcopalians, Orthodox  &c,  &c,  &c, may disdain the Cathedrals of other religions.  They are (or should be) united in believing that the Boston Cathedral above all other Cathedral is the gorgeous Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.   WOW       and   WOW  Some months ago an owner showed up at the dog park with his handsome dog named  FENWAY!   My heart and memory went back to my Cambridge/Boston days The Owner  once lived in the Greater Boston area and was a BoSox Season Ticket holder for many years. This good man was back at the dog park today; this time with two dogs. Grown up F ENWAY ,  (one of Cooper's good friends); and a new Puppy named Ted, or Teddy. Ted, or Teddy for Ted Williams: all-star ball player:...

A Scary Outburst of Rage at the Dog Park

Image
Our early  morning walk at the 17th St dog park  ( these days at 7:00 a.m. ) has its own set of rituals and customs: unwritten, soon learned, and mostly respected.   0ur dogs are those whose walkers/owners have schooled them into good behaviour.  Most dogs are anxious to learn. For the most part our owners are amiable and chatty (NO POLITICS) .  We have reasonable interests in each other's lives  (with a few *  nosy parkers). Any pretense that this Dog Park is Sarasota's Elysian field was blown to smithereens yesterday morning, as most owners and dogs were ambling in the direction of the exit. One unleashed Puppy bit an Old Boy Alaskan type dog.   Cooper and I didn't see it but we turned when we heard the yelp. We heard other noises.  The two owners engaged in a fierce and loud argument.  One owner was vociferous and mostly calm.  The other owner "lost it". He yelled.   He uttered a sentence sentence  ...

Your Plans Have Saved You $202.50. (Covid/Flu)

Image
The "plans" are those provided by the Government (Medicare); and by my private insurance (United Health Care via the Episcopal Church Pension Fund) I pay a monthly premium for this. Hooray for vaccines, whatever the Luddites claim. Huzzahs because I am vaccinated against COVID and FLU for a year.  Double Huzzahs that I did not have to spend $202+ No Huzzahs, for I don't know how to reconcile my good fortune with that of the urban poor; and the rural farmers and farm workers who are underserved by our medical system. Flu shot   -   annual U.S. approved. Covid "Comirnaty" by  Pfizer.

Cooper's New Friend

Snuggles with Simon

Image
Simon and I see each other mainly at a distance. We are at opposite sides of a retention pond. But yesterday (the day of Cooper's seizure) but before the seizure , we met at the Dog Park.   It was our first face to face encounter. Simon decided to snuggle with me and jumped on the bench to do so. I LIKED IT     COOPER DID NOT CARE!

Rhubarb Pie>

Image
Good coffees, and superb mini-pies at Yoder's on Bahia Vista  Saturday I bought rhubarb pies. SO GOOD!

Another Fit Pitiful to watch

Image
Starts with Cooper staggering, then he falls to the ground as the fit takes control.   It lasts for about three minutes. It's forceful.  He foams at the mouth and topples furniture items. I could cry. Now he is resting after drinking much water. Cooper resists taking the meds - even when they are buried in pill pockets.   (I have to crush the Levetiracetam ER 500 mg)  with all my might and bury it in the pill pocket, in his wet (*prescription) food,  and in mashed up chicken. Oh my poor boy.

Love at the Park

PAY ATTENTION JOHN MICHAEL

Image
The Chicken Breast you bought to supplement Cooper's Meals was not Chicken. Here is what the AKC advises about Turkey meat for dogs https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/can-dogs-eat-turkey/#:~:text=If%20you%20decide%20to%20feed I'll find a human use for the Turkey breast -  it would last forever for Mr. Cooper.  Some Vets suggest no more than 2oz per meal dogs. It's off to the Bravo Supermarket to buy chicken thighs for his Highness.  Roasted and stripped of bone and fat they will be fine for him.  (I eat the Crispy Skin) PAY ATTENTION MR. P!
